![]() Here is a rough overview of how different fields are related to different ethics and perks. You may suddenly find the need to make friends with neighbors who get lucky on their tech roles. However, the if a neighbor empire learns of a different breakthrough, you will suddenly get a (8x) or (2x) depending on if that empire is friendly or hostile (just their raw positive or negative opinion of you). Every other breakthrough has different ethics, ascension perks and weight modifiers, so at best you'll get weights for them in the low single digits, maybe up to 20 if you get a few things going for you. However, that took a fanatic ethic, two ascension perks, and the perfect scientist. Great! you probably will draw the breakthrough tech and research it in no time. }So, if you are a fanatic materialist (3) empire with a two relevant ascension perks (2),(2), and a level five (2) materials scientist (4) you get a weight of 1x3x2x2x2x4=96. Has_country_flag = "materials_breakthrough_spread_hostile" Has_country_flag = "materials_breakthrough_spread_friendly" Has_trait = "leader_trait_spark_of_genius" Has_trait = "leader_trait_expertise_materials" ![]() Has_ascension_perk = ap_mastery_of_nature However, that weight is modified by things your empire may have, here is an example:Ĭountry_engineering_tech_research_speed = 0.25 Weight determines how likely you are to draw that tech option when researching, and for reference all vanilla techs range in weight from 100 down to 20 for the highest tier rarest tech. This makes it extremely unlikely for a single empire to spawn all breakthroughs themselves, because many of the weight factors are contradictory.Īll breakthrough techs have a base tech weight of 1. The very low base chance of a breakthrough is tied to the researching scientist, and more importantly each breakthrough has a unique set of weights for empire ethics, and taken ascension perks. That is done by adding a country flag to neighboring empires that modifies the weight of the breakthrough tech to appear in a reasonable timeframe. However, once an empire learns of a breakthrough tech, it spreads slowly to neighboring empires. The catch is they are extremely rare, likely to spawn only in a single empire across the game. Each of these breakthroughs is as consequential as an ascension perk. 12 new "breakthrough technologies", one for each specialization trait (particles, voidcraft, biology, etc) are added that each dramatically increase research speed in their field, as well as provide a unique secondary bonus. To do this I am implementing a system inspired by institutions from EU4, but built into Stellaris's research card system. I want to be able to meet an empire across the map far ahead of me in physics research, but lagging behind in biology. I want empires to have technological ups and downs and create shifting tech disparities across the map over the course of a game. And empires, both AI and player are usually relatively balanced among the three fields. Right now, once you get ahead in tech you stay ahead. Make technology more dynamic across the course of a game.
